In 2015, Morgan Stanley in Japan became the proud sponsor of the seminal exhibit by one of Japan’s leading contemporary artists, Takashi Murakami — “Takashi Murakami: The 500 Arhats” (Mori Art Museum, Tokyo).
Takashi Murakami, perhaps more than any other artist of his generation, has embraced the notion of combining capitalism with art — his work includes everything from paintings and sculptures to filmwork and corporate branding. The exhibit featured a number of works created specifically for this occasion, the first time Murakami displayed his work in his native Japan in 14 years. Murakami has received the 66th Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts for this exhibition.
